The development of a secure attachment relationship is a cruicial part of early development. Through careful observation of early relationships all other areas of development are observed as well. This film shows baby Orson as he develops through his first twelve months.
Starting with a sequence filmed just after birth, there is a sequence for every month of this first year and sometimes more than one. The sequences all involve interactions with others (clips with dad as well as mum). They have been chosen, so that as well as showing general development, they also shows some aspect relevant to the attachment process.
These sequences can be used to observe the main shifts in skills and abilities - physical, social and cognitive - common to babies in their first year. They can also be used to observe how attachments are formed. Through careful observation, the important components that are essential to building a secure attachment become clear.
The accompanying user notes give background information. For each sequence you will find a description, a list of aspects of development to notice and a list of adult involvement to be seen. For each there is also extensive, practical and theoretical information about the main feature of the sequence, detailed links with the EYFS and questions for reflection.
