Observation Sequences
This contains source sequences rich in examples of communication, language, social and emotional development that can be used with a variety of aims and observation techniques.
Sequences are arranged chronologically fron 15 months to 6.5 years
The sequences include:
- 15 month old playing with grandma - numerous non-verbal communication skills
- 2 year old twins playing together - differing developmental stages
- 2.5 year old looking at photos with mum - 3 word sentences etc.
- Three 3.5 year olds playing together outside - cooperation, withdrawal, leadership
- Three children 4, 5 & 6 years old sitting round a table with playdough - eventually leads to conflict
Each sequence can be used for formal or informal observations. For each sequence the accompanying notes include a brief description and suggested observation methods and objectives. Detailed lists of points that can be noticed in all areas of development and transcripts of all language used are also included.
