Two Year Old's Outdoors

I like the way the film brings in so many different and important aspects in each sequence - it really hammers home the message that quality play covers so many different aspects of learning (and I don't just mean - 'areas of the curriculum') and highlights those important things that either don't often get recognised ( e.g. the links between movement and brain development ) as well as exemplifying - and making real- those things that people talk about but don't always understand, like schema!

It is great to see children and adults staying out when it begins to pour down - just a case of pull up your hood and carry on - and using the rain as a free resource.

I was pleased to see a child with special needs featured and the way she was so well supported to make the most of the outdoor space. The outdoors can be a vitally important part of provision for children with special needs and once again there are some great examples of adults who are tuned in to children.

The films shows good examples of the way quality resourcing isn't all about fancy, expensive things - and that a bit of plastic still has its place if it meets a need and is fit for purpose - as well as highlighting the value of natural resources, and first hand experiences.  There are great examples of accessible resources that children know where to find and are confident that they can use in flexible ways.
