Toddlers Outdoors
The filming really brings out the value of the outdoors for this age range. I like the mix of ages, showing an effective build up over the toddler year.
There is a wide range of examples - some with adults engaging in conversation, sometimes very actively and sometimes being largely quiet. It struck me that the film is also an effective demonstration of child-initiated exploration and learning. The DVD shows very good practice because none of the outdoors environments are over-organised. It is also advantageous that, although considerable thought has gone into creating interesting spaces, practitioners are unlikley to be daunted and think large sums of money are required to convert every outdoor space. There is great interest for young children in the outdoors.
