Physical play

Physical play is great fun for even the youngest children. Sometimes called exercise play, it is the first type of play to develop in young children and is essential for promoting gross and fine motor skills.

The opportunities physical play brings increases health and well-being at the same time as encouraging socialising. It’s also an important vehicle in supporting the ability to become self-regulating. Risky play needs to be assessed carefully but children do need to take risks and begin to know for themselves what they can manage. Rough and tumble is helpful in development, encouraging bonding and mind mindedness. Children love to be inventive and adventurous in their movement, both indoors and out.
